BACK TO TUCSON

Image
I almost missed out on Arizona this year.  Encouraged by the cold wings which were headed to my London base, I decided on a shortened escapade; no Desert Garden and Phoenix, just wonderful Tucson.  In case you are wondering, this has been on my calendar for the last four years. The itinerary is much the same as the years before, a Canyon visit, a couple nurseries, and this time the Ironwood Forest National Park.  I am truly grateful to Marty - Arizona Agave  for the effort in making the visit enjoyable, and that includes the delicious meals at the family Mexican restaurant. I will start off with Arid Lands which I love visiting, and is the kind of nursery that we do not have here in the UK. To get there , I flew from London Heathrow via Dallas Fort Worth in Texas, and I stayed most of the time at Four Points by Sheraton at Tucson Airport. In pursuit of looking at young plants, the nurseries are my first stop. And Tucson has a wonderful selection of the...

MASPALOMAS

Image
The Canary Islands are group of islands governed by Spain which lies around sixty miles of the coast of Morocco.  There are seven main islands including Gran Canaria, and numerous other islands and islets. They are now generally seen as perfect tourist destinations by Europeans who flock there to escape the cold, and enjoy the sun. Maspalomas is situated in the southern part of Gran Canaria.  It is part of the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana.  Based on my personal experience, it appears to be a lot more sunny, and have far less downpours of rain than the north of the island, including Las Palmas.  It is also very well developed with numerous hotels, and resorts. During my time there, I stayed at the Eugenia Victoria Hotel, in Gran Canaria Avenue, not far from the Playa de Ingles. It was a very large hotel about four hundred rooms offering Half board, or All inclusive. The accommodation was quite adequate with lots of room space, and I did enjoy t...

VARADERO CUBA: By the Sea

Image
PLAYA DE ORO Arrived very late, almost at midnight, and grabbed a taxi from Varadero Airport,                         and headed to the Playa de Oro Resort complex. It was a very welcoming environment,             and very soon I was settled in my room.  On the table was a warm welcome sign, a bottle           of Cuba rum, two cans of beer and two soft drinks. Too late to join the party, I decided             to have a quick look around the resort, and then crashed into bed, after all it was a very           long American Airlines flight all the way from London UK. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/cuba http://www.varaderoguide.net/index.html http://www.varadero-airport.com/facilities.html http://www.viazul.com/ http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-2215-mercure-playa-de-oro/index.shtml ...
